There are two things sold as metal roofing and they are not the same product. Exposed-fastener panels are screwed through the face into the deck, and every one of those screws has a rubber washer that hardens and shrinks in this climate — you are looking at re-screwing the roof within a decade. Standing seam uses concealed clips: the panel is held at the seam and is free to expand and contract, and there is no gasket anywhere in the water path.
Within a few miles of the Gulf we specify aluminium rather than galvanised steel. Steel with a good coating is fine inland, but salt finds a coating edge eventually and once it starts at a cut end it does not stop. Aluminium simply has no rust to give, and on Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel or the McGregor corridor that difference is the whole decision.
We roll-form panels to length on site, which means no end laps on a typical run — and an end lap is the only place a standing seam roof is likely to leak. It also means the truck has to get to the property, which is worth checking before you fall in love with the idea on a tight lot.

Metal gets hot. Standard peel-and-stick will bleed asphalt under a metal panel; this does not.

Questions on this one
Is a metal roof loud in rain?
Not over a solid deck with underlayment and an insulated attic beneath it. The noise people remember is corrugated metal over open purlins on a barn. On a house it is quieter than most people expect and quieter than tile in hail.
Will it dent?
A heavy branch or a dropped tool will mark a panel, and heavier gauge resists it better. It is the honest trade-off against shingle: metal survives wind far better and cosmetic damage is a panel replacement rather than a patch.
Does metal lower my insurance?
Frequently, though it varies by carrier. What moves the premium is what goes on the wind mitigation form — roof covering type and its approval, deck attachment, roof-to-wall connection and secondary water barrier. A properly documented metal roof scores well on several of those at once.
